How ExamLense protects a sitting, from arrival to result
Three stages, each with its own job. Identity is settled before the paper opens, detection runs while it is open, and a person decides what any of it meant afterwards.
Before the exam
Verify the candidate, then lock the room
Candidates arrive from your LMS, your identity provider, or an emailed invitation. Whichever way they came in, the identity check still runs.
- The name is read from the ID document and matched against your roster, tolerant of spelling and ordering differences
- The live selfie is matched against the document photo at a high, configurable similarity threshold
- A failed match goes to a review queue for a person to look at. Nobody is silently locked out of their exam

During the exam
Detection that knows what it is looking at
From the Standard tier the whole screen becomes evidence, captured on the moments that carry information rather than on a metronome, and read for what is actually on it rather than matched against a list of app names.

A decision you can show your working for
Flagged sessions become review cases with an evidence timeline. A reviewer dismisses, confirms, or escalates, and the reasoning is kept alongside the evidence.

Works on bad connections
Answers and the clock both live on our side, so a dropped connection is a pause, not a lost paper. Reconnect and the session is exactly where it was.
A person makes the call
The platform raises flags and scores risk. It never decides. Every violation is confirmed by a trained reviewer, and high-stakes exams can require a second reviewer to agree.
Oversight in proportion
A weekly quiz does not need a video archive. On the Lite tier the checks happen and nothing visual is kept at all. Nothing is retained that the exam did not justify.
Evidence that holds up
Every flag, decision, and result change is written to an append-only record with the exam rules in force at the time. Nothing in that record can be edited later.

ExamLense strictly follows the compliance guidelines set out in SOC 2, the GDPR, Ghana's Data Protection Act, and the equivalent laws of every market our institutions operate in. Candidate data is minimised by default, held only as long as your retention policy allows, and never shared beyond the institution that owns it.

Frequently asked questions
Do candidates need an account?
No. Candidates never create accounts. They arrive through a launch from your LMS, through your institution single sign-on, or through an invitation link plus a one-time code sent by email or SMS. Every route ends in a short-lived credential scoped to one exam. Only staff have accounts.
Which learning management systems do you work with?
All the major ones. ExamLense integrates over LTI 1.3, the standard every mainstream learning platform supports, so if your system speaks LTI then ExamLense launches from it, syncs the roster, and returns the grade. Where an institution runs something bespoke, single sign-on or invitation links cover it instead.
Does ExamLense check national ID databases?
No, and it never will. Verification is self contained. The name is read off the document the candidate presents and matched against the roster you supplied, and the selfie is matched against the photo on that same document. No government registry is contacted. Supporting a new country ID card is a configuration change, not an integration.
What happens when the internet drops mid-exam?
The countdown and the answer state both live on our side, so a disconnection pauses the candidate rather than ending them. There is a configurable grace period, answers save as the candidate works, and the session resumes exactly where it stopped. The clock on the candidate machine is never trusted.
Is anything recorded on the lowest tier?
No. On the Lite tier the face and identity checks run throughout the session and nothing visual is kept afterwards. No biometric media is retained. If an exam does not justify a recording, do not buy a tier that makes one. There is also a screen-monitoring-only mode with no camera at all, for testing where a camera would be disproportionate.
Does a person actually review flags?
Yes. Detection raises flags and keeps a running risk score, and a risky session is promoted into a review case for a trained reviewer. The platform never decides on its own that somebody cheated. High-stakes exams can be configured to require two reviewers to agree.
How is it bought?
Institutions buy prepaid session credits per tier, invoice first. You request credits, we issue an invoice, you pay by bank transfer or mobile money, and credits are added once finance confirms the payment. ExamLense processes no payments and stores no payment details.
